Mathematical Sciences

History

The faculty of Mathematical Sciences includes five categories: math, applied and industrial math, statistics, actuary, computer science. This faculty was established in 1991 by the integration of statistics department and mathematics department. Up until then statistics department had been a part of the faculty of management and comprehensive informatics faculty since 1976 and the mathematics department had been a part of science faculty since 1967. It is noteworthy that the higher education institute of statistics and informatics (formerly named) which was the first established department of the country in 1966, was combined in the statistics faculty of this university after the Islamic revolution in 1983. Likewise in 1999 department of computer science was established and admitted students in this major. Now all the departments in math faculty are active in bachelor, master and Ph.D. levels.

In 2016 the statistics department was divided into statistics department and actuary department. The mathematics department was also divided into department of applied and industrial math and department of mathematics. The objectives of these divisions were to have more efficient interaction and communication with industry, society and also concentration on development and expansion of majors in higher education and making research laboratories. Accordingly, the first PhD students in actuary was admitted in 2017 and in the following year. Also, the first semester of data science was held in Iran in this faculty.  Comprehensive lab of science researches was made in 2018 in the faculty of mathematics. There are 9 specialized labs for data science in the comprehensive lab of science research.

At the moment the faculty of mathematics has 45 full time members in the board of education. There are also 480 bachelor students, 307 master students and 101 Ph.D. students in this faculty.
