Mathematics
The department of mathematics started its activity in 1968-1967 as a part of the faculty of sciences. In the beginning, the department had B.Sc. students in mathematics, and then it admitted students in teacher training. After a couple of years, the department enrolled students in the following fields: teacher training, applications in computer, applications in physics, operation research, applications in statistics and pure mathematics. Thereafter the applied fields were merged to one major, namely applied mathematics, and consequently the department was comprised of three majors: pure mathematics, applied mathematics and mathematics education. In 2015, finally, the department was divided into two departments: department of (pure) mathematics and department of applied and industrial mathematics.
At the time being, the department of (pure) mathematics has 12 regular faculty and approximately 20 Ph.D., 70 M.Sc., and 130 B.Sc. students. The department also has research strengths in a diverse range of fields including Algebra (commutative Algebra, group theory, universal algebra and Fuzzy systems), Analysis, Mathematical Logic, Dynamical Systems, and Number Theory.
